  • The salary limit coverage for act 4 and act 800 was increased from RM4,000.00 to RM5,000.00 for the purposes of contribution and payment of benefits.
  • Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohammed Azman bin Aziz Mohammed, Chief Executive of PERKESO was chosen as the 17th ISSA President, the first Malaysian to hold highest office in the international organisation.
  • Housewives’ Social Security Act [Act 838] was enforced.

  • The Prime Minister announced the Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat Malaysia Assistance Package (PERMAI) (Malaysian People and Economic Protection Assistance Package) containing the Wage Subsidy Programme 3.0 (PSU 3.0) which had been upgraded, the SIP PRIHATIN and the full funding of contribution to delivery riders under the PERKESO Self Employment Social Security Scheme.
  • PERKESO’s Golden Jubilee Celebration was launched, virtually, by the PERKESO Chief Executive.
  • The Prime Minister announced the Strategic Programme to Empower the People and the Economy (PEMERKASA) comprising the expansion of hiring incentive scope for temporary occupation and gig occupation, extending the Wage Subsidy Programme 3.0 and the improvement of the Apprenticeship Programme under PenjanaKerjaya.
  • Coverage of the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800) was expanded to include domestic workers.
  • The Prime Minister announced the National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recover Package (PEMULIH) (PSU4.0), as well as the expansion of the Job Search Allowance and PenjanaKerjaya 3.0.
  • The song entitled ‘Sifar’ won the ‘Music is Key’ category at the International Media Festival for Prevention in Canada.

  • Expansion of the Self Employment Social Security Scheme (Act 789) protection to 19 informal sectors.
  • The Employment Retention Programme under the Economic Stimulus Package 2020 (PRE2020) was established when the country experienced the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • The Wage Subsidy Programme was introduced under the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN).
  • The Prime Minister announced the National Economic Regeneration Plan (PENJANA) which encompassed the PrihatinPKS+ Programme, namely the expansion of the Wage Subsidy Programme and the Exit Plan for the Employment Retention Programme, the upgrading of MYFutureJobs as the National Employment Services Portal and PENJANAKERJAYA (Hiring Incentive Package), Matching Grant for Gig Economy Workers under the PERKESO Self Employment Injury Scheme and the expansion of the Employment Injury Schme to cover employees working from home.

  • The Tun Abdul Razak PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre was incorporated under the Companies Act 2016 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PERKESO with the name Pusat Rehabilitasi PERKESO Sdn. Bhd.
  • PERKESO hosted the ISSA Regional Social Security Forum of Asia and the Pacific 2018.
  • The PERKESO office in Tanjung Karang commenced operations.
  • The Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (Act 800) was enforced.

  • The PERKESO office in Kota Marudu, Sabah commenced operations.
  • The Self Employment Social Security Act 2017 which was passed by Parliament and gazetted as Act 789 came into force.
  • The PERKESO office in Beaufort, Sabah commenced operations.
  • The Funeral Benefit rate was increased from RM1,500 to RM2,000 with effect from 1st July 2016 (backdated).
  • The Tun Abdul Razak PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre was officially opened by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

  • PERKESO held its Rebranding Launch Ceremony at Menara PERKESO, Jalan Ampang.
  • The Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Act 2016 was enacted to include social security protection to all workers regardless of salary limit, in accordance with the definition of workers. The Act also raised the contribution ceiling from RM3,000.00 to RM4,000.00 for the purposes of contribution and payment of benefits.
  • PERKESO achieved a 5-Star Rating from MAMPU for the year 2015-2016.

  • The PERKESO office in Mukah, Sarawak commenced operations.
  • The PERKESO office in Limbang, Sarawak commenced operations

  • The PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre commenced operations in Bandar Hijau, Hang Tuah Jaya, Melaka.
  • PERKESO won first place in the Short Video category with its video entitled “Bayangkan…” (Imagine…) at the International Media Festival in conjunction with the XX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work 2014.

  • PERKESO introduced the Health Screening Programme, providing free health examinations to Insured Persons above the age of 40 years.

  • The service charge for PERKESO’s education loan was reduced from 4% to 2% per annum.
  • PERKESO tansitioned to the practice of MS ISO 9001:2008 Certification.

  • The Return To Work rehabilitation programme was introduced by PERKESO.

  • Implementation of compound action pursuant to the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 and the Employees’ Social Security (Compounding of Offences) Regulations 2006.

  • The Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 was amended wherein the employees’ salary ceiling was raised from RM2,000 to RM3,000 per month.
  • For widowers/widows receiving pension, the pension will be maintained even if they remarry.
  • Widowers/widows became eligible to receive the Survivor’s Pension or Dependant’s Benefits regardless of level of dependency.

  • Dialysis treatment was introduced as one of the benefits under PERKESO’s protection scheme.

  • The Education Benefit was introduced with an allocation of RM30 million and commenced with 49 borrowers.

  • The minimum daily rate for Temporary Disablement Benefit, Permanent Disablement Benefit and Dependant’s Benefit was increased to RM9.00.

  • All foreign workers were excluded from coverage under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969.

  • All employees with salaries of RM2,000 and below became eligible to contribute with PERKESO even if the employer only had one employee. On the other hand, employees with salaries exceeding RM2,000 were given the option to contribute.
  • PERKESO became separated from the Government New Government Remuneration System with the introduction of the New PERKESO Remuneration System.
  • Protection for commuting accidents (accidents on journeys to and from the workplace) was introduced
  • Period of eligibility for the Invalidity Pension Scheme and Invalidity Grant was reduced from 36 months to 24 months.

  • The PERKESO protection scheme was implemented throughout Sabah and Sarawak.
  • The definition of ‘child’ was expanded to cover all categories of children including adopted child under the age of 21 years.
  • Liberalisation of the dependency condition for widowers and parents in terms of eligibility for Survivor’s Pension and Dependant’s Benefits under both schemes.
  • Coverage of the Act was expanded to include employers with 5 or more employees regardless of salary. However, only employees receiving salaries of RM1,000 and below were eligible for coverage.

  • The Survivor’s Pension was first introduced.
  • The Funeral Benefit was increased from RM500 to RM1,000.
  • All employees with salaries of RM1,000 and below became eligible to contribute with PERKESO, in the case of employers with 5 or more employees.
  • The minimum daily rate of Temporary and Permanent Disablement Benefit was increased from RM2.50 to RM8.00.
  • PERKESO was established as a Statutory Body.

  • Employees in Statutory Bodies and Local Authorities who opted for the New Scheme or who were appointed or bound under the New Scheme were excluded from PERKESO coverage.

  • The PERKESO protection scheme was expanded to the whole of Peninsular Malaysia, covering all businesses with 5 or more employees with salary not exceeding RM500 per month.
  • Payment of Funeral Benefits was increased to RM500.

  • The PERKESO protection scheme (including the Invalidity Scheme) was introduced in Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
  • The Invalidity Pension was expanded to 14 PERKESO offices nationwide including in Sabah and Sarawak.

  • The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) was established as a Government Department under the Ministry of Labour.
  • The first PERKESO protection scheme was implemented in Johor Bahru.
  • Employers with at least 5 workers with salary of RM500 and below became eligible to register and contribute.
  • Employers paid their workers’ monthly contribution using contribution stamps.
  • Jackson & Masacorale became the first employer to register with PERKESO. Encik Mohd Taib bin Hassan was the first employee to be registered under PERKESO by his employer.
